1. Teaching
- B Pharm - First Class students are eligible to teach as lecturers
in the D.Pharm programme
2. Medical
Transcription – documenting in e-format audio or video files which have a
recorded doctor-patient interaction or other patient information.
3. Chemist –
Analyst- in Industry, labs or Government establishments
4. Community
Pharmacist/Hospital Pharmacist
5. Minimum
qualification to practice as Pharmacist in many foreign(gulf) countries.
M.Pharm
Master of Pharmacy
1. Teaching-
First Class students can get a lecturer’s job in pharmacy degree colleges. Whilst
in teaching profession they can do research.
2. Pharmacist – Hospital
Pharmacist or Community Pharmacist.
3. Specialized
jobs - As per specialization taken in the masters course one can specialise in
jobs that are offered in the Pharmaceutics(drug formulation),
Pharmacognosy(Plant drug/medicine) , Pharmaceutical Analysis (as chemists/ sophisticated
analytical instrument handlers/ quality assurance and quality control departments of Pharmaceutical and Life science
industry, Pharmacology (clinical trials and research labs), Pharmaceutical
Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry.
Further many new specializations at the Masters level are being
introduced including nanotechnology and Regulatory affairs.
Pharm.D
Doctor of Pharmacy
1. Clinical
Pharmacist/ Pharmacist- In Corporate Hospitals/ Large Pharmacies.
2. Fast
becoming the required qualification to be eligible to try for Pharmacist
licenses in US, UK, Australia and New
Zealand. However it is on a case to case basis and extra training, licensing
requirements vary from country to country which also requires to be fulfilled.
Other Job Opportunities.
1. Sales and Marketing – Ambitious achievers with pleasant
personality and goodcommunication skills can opt for the job of Medical Sales
Representative. The companies prefer pharmacy graduates for this job, as they
have a good knowledge about the drug molecules, their therapeutic effects and
the drug –drug interactions.
2. Clinical
Research – B.Pharm/ M.Pharm degree holders can take up career in clinical
research. The drug testing phase is called the clinical trial. A pharmacist can
work as clinical research associate or clinical pharmacist and can rise to the
position of project manager. The clinical research associate plays an important
role of monitoring and overseeing the conducts of clinical trials, which are
conducted on healthy human volunteers. They have to see that the trials meet
the international guidelines and the national regulatory requirements.
3.Biotechnology
and Bioinformatics is a fast growing branch and graduates can opt for post
graduate diplomas and further specializations in this growing area.
4. Medical
writers- for large partner companies involved in the development, marketing and
other regulatory areas of core Pharmaceutical companies.
5. Patient
engagement personel – Employed by pharmaceutical companies to engage patients
who are on life-long medications and require to be monitored or given special
care and guidance.
6. Research
and development – A career in Pharmaceutical sciences allows specializations in
various subjects and fields. A lot of flexibility and cross disciplinary
movement is possible due to the wide variety and depth of subjects studied
during the course. There is a field of
research for everyone interested.

consider venturing into pursuing higher studies abroad in order to make their
careers even more lucrative and challenging.
1. USA - One
may consider opting for pursuing higher studies abroad. After graduation from a
recognised university, the students can appear for their GRE(Graduate Record
Examination) and TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) for entry into US
universities. US universities offer assistance-ship for undergraduate
programmes. Students have to apply well in advance since visa procedure also
takes time;
2. Australia - Indian
students know most of the universities in USA. Very few know and try for the
postgraduate studies in Australia.
3. Ireland - Ireland
is another ideal destination for students. There are about 400 students for
postgraduate studies. The standard of universities in Ireland is similar to UK
universities. Cost of the education is much less than in UK & US. Ireland
is amongst the top producers of pharmaceuticals and fine chemicals.
